What is the difference Affidavit and Statutory Declaration?
An “affidavit” is a document that contains statements that are verified by the swearing (or affirmation) of an oath by the “deponent” (the person taking the oath). A “statutory declaration” is similar, but the verification is by solemn declaration (not oath) and is used when there is no legislative authority for an affidavit.

What does it mean to Notarize a document?
Notarizing a document means verifying it to be a true copy of an original document. Therefore, the client does not need to be present when a lawyer notarizes a document. However, the lawyer must see the original document from the client. When notarizing a document, the lawyer usually attaches a notarial certificate to the front of the copy, completes and signs the certificate and affixes the lawyer's seal.
What is an Independent Legal Advise?
A lawyer who is independent (not acting for the other person) may be asked to provide advice about the nature and consequences of a specific document to be signed by a client (financial obligation, commercial or family agreement, etc.). ILA ensures that the interests of all the parties are protected. Independent legal advice is advice from a lawyer who is not acting for, and is not connected to, any other person in the dispute.
The lawyer providing independent legal advice will provide a certificate of independent legal advice to his or her client after giving the advice. Certificate of independent legal advise is a document confirming that a person has received legal advice on the issue from an independent lawyer not associated with the other contracting party.
